Charles Rennie Mackintosh made alterations to his original plans for the Library in order to create a magnificent study space. The Arts and Crafts style that Mackintosh drew inspiration from, is echoed in the carved wooden balustrades painted in red, green, blue and white. The original bindings for books in the Library are said to have been colour coded similarly to give a sense of order and peace throughout.
